San Diego shows up for Earth Day
Nearly 15,000 attendees, volunteers and vendors visited Balboa Park on Saturday for EarthFest, an annual Earth Day celebration. Sprinkled among over 100 food, product and service booths were 25 local nonprofit and environmental advocacy groups who invited participants to get involved in their campaigns. Actions that the groups advocated for ranged from changing individual consumption habits to organized community advocacy at a legislative level. — Marco Guajardo

Linda Vista residents have come together to try to protect their neighbors from the Trump administration's aggressive immigration enforcement. They let each other know when the coast is clear at the grocery store and other common destinations, and they put out alerts if Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers appear in the area. Their organizing could be a model for other neighborhoods that are worried about potential deportations of residents. — Kate Morrissey

CBP cancels event at Logan Heights Library
A Customs and Border Protection recruitment team canceled a hiring workshop at the Logan Heights Library after community pushback over the agency's presence in the area. About 45 protesters arrived at the library with flags, signs and megaphones. Protesters at the event expressed anger at the agency’s presence during a time of immigration raids in communities like Logan Heights. — Marco Guajardo
